Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry soul with good things. — Psalms 107:8-9 / NIV

Dolly Parton said it best, when she wrote the bleary-eyed lyrics to her 1980s hit song, Nine to Five! However, I must confess . . . I am having a love affair with my morning coffee!

I start out each morning with Jesus. My Bible, journal and coffee are companions. As soon as I open my eyes I get out of bed and head to the kitchen. I grab a K-cup and push the power button on the Keurig. What happens next? Three little words appear on the digital readout, “Lift to Begin.” At this point I am forced to make a decision. To lift or not to lift?  For me it’s a no-brainer. I know I want the coffee, so I quickly pull the lever down and begin to detect the sweet smell of coffee.

A few weeks ago, it occurred to me that just like the Keurig gives instructions, so does our Savior. He asks us to LIFT our hearts to the heavens and BEGIN our day by thanking Him. He deserves our worship and praise every morning and invites us to lay our burdens at the foot of the cross. When we rely on Jesus, He does the heavy lifting. He prepares our path and shows us how to navigate this unpredictable adventure called life. But just like the Keurig asks us to “lift to begin” the Father asks us to put our faith in Him and follow His lead. We all have our morning routines, and as the Keurig fills your mug with coffee, Jesus wants to fill your cup with the Living Water.

Remember God’s faithfulness in your life. Welcome Him into your heart each morning be aware of His presence all day. This is how we begin to nurture our relationship with the God who loves us so dearly. He will fill you with a joy that knows no bounds.

Points to Ponder

God says we should seek Him first and His mercies are new every morning.

●      Do you have a daily time of prayer? If not, what could you change to make that happen?

●      If you could talk with God about anything, what topics would you explore? What struggles would you share with Him?
